Today’s post are the lyrics for “Lost in Thoughts All Alone” (the theme song to Fire Emblem Fates) as they appear in the official translation. The lyrics are vastly different than the Japanese lyrics that I translated back in July, so it will be interesting to compare them later on!
Update: I updated the above video for the full song!
It is notably missing the second verse of the song (which equates to Conquest/Nohr). As such, the song is incomplete, but will be updated to include the full song when it becomes available. UPDATE: We now have the second verse lyrics! Thanks to reader JL Brown for the link! Updated the lyrics below! Thanks to reader JL Brown for the link!
This was all done on my free time, and so took a while. It was certainly a lot of work, but I do hope you enjoy! Please consider donating if you like the work I do. : )
Note this is not an official transcript, but all by ear, though there are not many words that can be misunderstood.
——————————————————
You are the ocean’s gray waves
Destined to seek
Life beyond the shore
Just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change
Flowing like time
The path is yours to climb
In the white light
A hand reaches through
A double-edged blade cuts your heart in two
Waking dreams fade away
Embrace the brand new day
Sing with me a song
Of birthrights and love
The light scatters to the sky above
Dawn breaks through the gloom
White as a bone
Lost in thoughts, all alone
You are the ocean’s gray waves
Destined to seek
Life beyond the shore
Just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change
Flowing like time
The path is yours to climb
Embrace the dark,
You call a home.
Gaze upon an empty white throne,
A legacy of lies,
A familiar disguise.
Sing with me a song
of conquests and fates
The black pillar cracks
beneath its weight.
Night breaks through the day
Hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts, all alone
The path you walk on belongs to destiny
Just let it flow
All of your joy and your pain all fall like the tide
Just let it flow
Life is not just filled with happiness
Nor sorrow
Even the thorn in your heart
In time it may become
A rose
A burdened heart,
Sinks into the ground
A veil falls away without a sound
Not day nor night, wrong nor right
For truth and peace you fight
Sing with me a song
Of silence and blood
The rain falls but
Can’t wash away the mud
Within my ancient heart dwells madness and pride
Can no one hear my cry?
You are the ocean’s gray waves
Destined to seek life beyond the shore
Just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change
Flowing like time
The path is yours to climb
You are the ocean’s gray waves
Fourth Verse (DLC):
You are the ocean’s gray waves, destined to seek
Life beyond the shore just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb
In endless dreams, countless realms collide
Hope falls only to rise like the changing tide
But all dreams come to an end,
Just whispers on the wind
Sing with me one last time, for light’s sacrifice,
Endless dawn came but not without a price,
Lost in the waves there glimmers, a pale blue stone.
I think of you, all alone

User Ehrzeth on serenesforest had the interpretation (I added a missing “the” and a few apostrophes, but the rest was written by them) that I agreed with. I assume we won’t get the third missing verse until the game finally releases, but if anyone gets the third verse before then, please send it to me so I may update this post. : )
UPDATE: Thanks to reader J.L. Brown in the comments, we have the missing verse! Thank you so much!
UPDATE 2: Thanks to Joao Lacerda for the fourth verse that came with the DLC. I wonder if I can find the Japanese equivalent…
I wanted so bad to sing this at a talent show. Thank you sooo much! I don’t know what I would’ve done if all of a sudden I forgot the verse to the first part of the song (in the white light…) Just thank you so much! 😀
I hope that went well for you : ) Sounds like fun! Thank you for the kind comments, and glad I could help someone out.
IVE BEEN TRYING TO LEARN THIS SONG AND NOW I HAVE THE LYRICS IM SO HAPPY I COULD CRY
Glad it came in handy! 😀
I love azura’s dark song bra. But the fact on conquest that Ryoma killed himself was sad. He only killed himself because he didn’t want to die by your hands. But Takumi got brainwashed by Garon and when you thought you died you saw him. He wanted you to kill him because he said that he knew there was no way he could come back.
Yep, a whole lot of dark things happen, one after another, emphasizing a tragedy.
Well… I guess I know what happens now.
Apologies if the above person’s comment spoiled some things for you…wish there was some way to spoiler tag it on this end… : \
the forth verse, the one from the dlc was realised:
“You are the ocean’s gray waves, destined to seek
Life beyond the shore just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb
In endless dreams, countless realms collide
Hope falls only to rise like the changing tide
But all dreams come to an end,
Just whispers on the wind
Sing with me one last time, for light’s sacrifice,
Endless dawn came but not without a price,
Lost in the waves there glimmers, a pale blue stone.
I think of you, all alone
You are the ocean’s gray waves, destined to seek
Life beyond the shore just out of reach
Yet the waters ever change, flowing like time
The path is yours to climb”
Interesting! I didn’t even know there was a fourth verse… I wonder if the Japanese version is out there somewhere, too…
Thanks a lot! I really love this song and I know the Japanese version by heart!
You’re welcome! Did you learn it phonetically, then? : )
There’s still something missing from these lyrics. After “in time it may become
a rose”, it goes:
“A burdened heart,
Sinks into the ground
A veil falls away without a sound
Not day nor night, wrong nor right
For truth and peace you fight”
Then it goes on to the rest.
Ah, thanks! Added it in. I realized another verse was missing too when listening through. So I added both. I listened to the entire song and saw its all there, so hopefully it is!
The line”gaze your eyes upon an empty white throne” doesn’t sound right to me. I checked with another page and it looks like it is just supposed to be “gaze upon an empty white throne”
Oh, sorry. Yeah I’m not sure how that “your” stayed in there, thought I combed it out of the lyrics on an earlier edit when I heard it too. Fixed! Thanks!

You are missing some lines before “Life is just not filled with happiness, nor sorrow”: “The path you walk on belongs to destiny; just let it flow
All of your joy and your pain all fall like the tide; just let it flow”
Thanks! Sorry about that. Updated it : ) Really appreciate it!

From what i hear from the song. “Lost in thoughts all alone”. I hear ” that path is yours to climb” not ” the path… “
That sounds more accurate too, will fix it! Thanks!
I definatly know that those are the IK Lyrics since 1. These lyrics were used in the revelations trailer 2.The part about Madness and Pride……you can probally guess. 3. a little more complicated. In the Birthright chapter after the “Branching Point of Fate”, the name of the chapter is “In the White Light,” the same as the song, but the Conquest one is it think “Embrace the Dark” which is not in the smash lyrics, so yea, I am sure Nohr is still a mystery.
1.) I didn’t see the trailer, but if they used those lyrics then that certainly leans that way more!
2.) Yep, easily!
3.) Interesting, do you mean the localized chapter name? Either way that is a good parallel.
Yes, it sure seems Nohr is the missing one at this point. : ) Looking forward to whenever its released!
The Nohr lyrics are a mystery no more thanks to this video https://youtu.be/aEe5A9WRLks.
Embrace the dark,
You call a home.
Gaze your eyes upon an empty white throne,
A legacy of lies,
A familiar, disguise.
Sing with me a song, of conquests and fates
The back pillar cracks, beneath its weight.
Night breaks through, the day,
Hard as a stone
Lost in thoughts, all alone.
Great! Thanks a lot! Will update, and give it a listen to double check lyrics: )
Haha, I was just looking at the lyrics for this before coming here. When I heard this song in English back in June, I cringed the whole time because the voice was just jarring. I changed my mind yesterday and found the song to be lovely. The symbolism here was lovely and didn’t blatantly give away the entire plot in the lyrics!
But.. isn’t the part about singing “a song of silence and blood” alluding to Nohr because they’re war mongering? I think it’s been mentioned in the comments already but I think the bit about mud referring to N14. Though I do hope that there are more references to Nohr other than “blood” and Revelations than the “ancient heart” part.
Glad it was of help, thank that thread on SF for pointing out the Smash Bros one was up. : )
The thing is it can refer to Nohr, but IK as well considering the whole taboo to speak about curse/the Kingdom in general thing resulting in a ton of bloodshed. The bit about the mud and such though can be that chapter for sure… so really we won’t know for sure until the full song comes along. xD
Looks like you were right about it being the Revelation lyrics :). Anyhow, I get the feeling that Garon’s “groans of increasing discomfort” will become a meme xD
Wait, you mean that wasn’t a meme already? xD
Voice-wise, I prefer the Japanese version more, but I like this one also. The lyrics were done well and hint at the plot in a nice way.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts : ) Yes, it does present hints for the plot in quite the poetic way.
I’d kind of assumed that this is the first and third verses, since the second verse changes tempo. Most of those lyrics fit the third verse better than the second, except maybe the middle part. Just a thought, though.
That’s a good point, I should specify “two verses” rather than “first two.” Considering she says Birthright for the Hoshido verse, I wonder if she will talk about Conquest for Nohr. The stuff about the ancient heart and all makes sense for the third too. Thanks! I’ll fix my wording a bit, because I agree.
The only part that seems to fit the second verse there is the bit about ‘the rain falls but can’t wash away the mud.’ Sounds kinda like the events of N14 to me? For that matter, ‘mud’ is a more thematically-appropriate adjective for that one boss…
Trying to imagine how the word conquest would fit in the second verse, if that is indeed the missing verse, is an interesting thought exercise. But they managed to work birthright into the first verse with no problem, so.
I do like this song, so thanks for posting the lyrics!
Indeed, it does sort of sound that way, but I feel like they may have been aiming for the third path (regarding Japanese lyrics) that talks about things that can’t stay buried. But it literally can fit that chapter very well…
I would say it can fit in if they go with the “advancing toward the empty white throne” motif, where it also mentions one who spins a tale to deceive them. There, they can say “On a path to Conquest” or something. I think it can fit pretty easily.
You’re welcome! Thank you for your comments and discussion : )
I saw that part as from the human side of Anankos. Pride and madness showing how the draconic instincts of his dragon side were driving them down a path of hatred and death.
Silence and Blood might also refer to the curse Anankos put on those who enter Valla, where none are able to discuss what they saw within outside its borders under the punishment of death.
Overall it seems to fit the theme of a cry for help from human Anankos, trying to stop his insane dragon side.
Yes, especially after the Invisible History DLC, I agree that it’s likely as you said about human Anankos’s cry for help in stopping that side.
