Fire Emblem Fates Localization: Conquest Ch. 8 Flora / Jakob Dialogue Addition (Minor Change)

FEIFWallpaper

This is the first in my series of Fire Emblem Fates localization comparison posts! I discuss anything from major to minor changes here as I play through the game. Today, we look at a scene from Chapter 8 in Conquest. There are minor plot spoilers, so please be wary as you go forward.

Please note that this post is purely informative and may share some opinion, but this does not mean the change is necessarily good or bad. A change is just a change that is being looked into, and you can be the judge of whether you like it or not!

It is all just for fun and curiosity for me. : )

Fates released! + Fire Emblem If 4Koma Kings Announced for Feb. 25th

Fire Emblem Fates released today in North America. I do hope they make an announcement for my friends in Europe soon… I am compiling things to compare over on serenesforest.net, and will soon start posting them rather regularly.

In other news, the game is also receiving a 4Koma book in Japan, titled: Fire Emblem If 4Koma Kings Sound familiar? That’s because there was a Fire Emblem Awakening 4Koma Kings that I translated in its entirety. It releases on February 25th, just a few days away!

This will differ slightly from the Fire Emblem if 4Koma Character Book as it will likely focus on random situations rather than per character.

I have already pre-ordered the book with the intention to translate the entire thing. This will make my third 4Koma project, so I do hope you look forward to it!

I do all the scanning/editing/translation by myself, and for free. But I do appreciate any and all donations people make to help keep the project going! If you’re feeling up to donating, and this link doesn’t work, then please click the button right over there on the right side of the page! : )

Fire Emblem Fates: Developer Interview (2/16) via USGamer

Since I have a lot of Fire Emblem followers, I thought to make today’s post about an interesting interview done by USGamer on some of the staff (including writer Shin Kibayashi and director Kouhei Maeda).

A brief synopsis from the website itself gives an idea of what its about:

Fire Emblem’s developers speak on the process of developing two different games at once, the characters they had their protagonist marry, and what the series needs to continue its recent success.

You can read the interview in full here.

Some fun small things in there! The game releases tomorrow, and many fans (including myself) already have access to the text found within the game to begin compiling support conversations and making Japanese/English comparisons. : )

Enjoy!

Fire Emblem Fates: Soleil’s Localized Support Conversation (FULL)

Today, someone on youtube managed to get the English version of Fire Emblem Fates early and load a Japanese save file onto it in order to view Soleil’s support conversation as it was officially localized. I then transcribed the entire thing by watching the video above. Find the transcript below! I will do a detailed comparison later on, but I do leave some notes at the bottom.

As you may know, the original Japanese dialogue was controversial due to misinterpretations and a bit of a media frenzy. You can read all about that here. Her original support conversation in Japanese (translated ) can be viewed here.

As you can imagine, the process of transcribing this took some time (and passion!), so if you are feeling generous, then…Please donate! It helps fund future projects!

Review: Fire Emblem Fates

FEIFWallpaper

I decided to write a review of Fire Emblem Fates today, a little ahead of the game’s release in the West. It is mostly written as a review to other FE fans (so gameplay is a given and only differences/new things are mentioned), but I do try to write it somewhat in a broader way for those who may be interested in the game but have not played any of the others.

I divided it into several sections, as the games do differ in their gameplay and story. So, I cover the three paths in addition to the general game. Note that this is actually based on Fire Emblem if (as it’s known in Japan), so I do not discuss localization differences. That will be at a different date later on after I play the Western release.

I do discuss story, but have managed to keep it spoiler-free (and with some references to what is already shown in promotional media, but not too much).

For reference, I am a long time FE fan (since FE7), I played this game back in June/July, and wrote several in-depth summaries of each path and some of the DLC, a chapter guide, a menu translation guide, and finally, a character guide.

A final reminder that some things in reviews are inevitably going to be value-judgements. Story, especially, for instance, is really a “matter of taste.” I would hope this is common knowledge, but apparently is forgotten by others sometimes…so please, when reading about story flaws and upsides, remember that it is just the humble opinion of one writer and maybe a few other fans. It may give brief guidelines on what to expect of the story, but the final opinion should always be formed by you after playing it.

As you can imagine, the process of writing this review took a lot of time (and passion!), so if you are feeling generous, then…Please donate! It helps fund future projects!

I hope you find this rather long-winded review useful in some way.

Fire Emblem Fates: Guide Updates/Plans

Today’s post is a brief update regarding all the Fire Emblem Fates material on this site.

First, Aqua/Azura’s song, “Lost in Thoughts All Alone” has been updated with its full lyrics. With this, I can finally compare it with the Japanese lyrics just to see the changes as I have done before with things like Ashley’s Theme in WarioWare.

Next, I will finally get around to doing a Fire Emblem Fates (well, technically if) review before the game’s release to give some final thoughts on the original version. Note that this will be written in a way that will make clear opinions, and that I still welcome discussion and will not berate anyone for disagreeing and such. I like to remain that reliably neutral source. xD A review may seem counter intuitive in that sense but it is mostly for those who were curious about my (personal) thoughts on the game. I hope to have this up soon.

There is a ton of stuff on Fire Emblem Fates‘s development inside the Making of Fire Emblem: 25 Years of Development Secrets that I hope to cover eventually, but will be focusing on finishing the Path of Radiance section first!

Lastly, I will slowly have to go through the Chapter Guide and Character Guide to update the names (as well as provide comparisons) with the officially localized . I’m keeping an eye on serenesforest’s name chart and such, and will likely rely on plenty other materials there to get this going, though will likely be a long term process, as I will be playing through the game itself, too!

If you have any other ideas for Fire Emblem Fates related content to cover, or specific things you may want compared when playing through the game yourself, please let me know, as I will have access to all paths (with the Special Edition), as well as all three paths in Japanese, so ideal way to compare them. : )

Happy Valentine’s Day! (2016) Japanese Culture Trivia + Misc Thoughts

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Taking a break from posting a translation today, with the shallow excuse of Valentine’s Day… either way a little busier today so here’s a post that isn’t really about anything in particular.

Did you know that in Japan, only girls give boys chocolate on Valentine’s Day rather than both giving to each other? There are many different types of chocolate, from “obligatory chocolate” [義理チョコ] (such as to a boss, colleague, etc), and “genuine chocolate” [本命チョコ] (given to those specifically intended, be they close friends, lovers, etc). A month later, on March 14th, the boys then have to pay them back, on a day known as “White Day.” The best part? They are expected to give back something that is “three times as valuable” [三倍返し] (as the usual saying goes, it does not literally have to be, but basically means not a simple mirror gift return). Now isn’t that just fun? Look up White Day on the net, you’ll run into some fun stuff on the matter!

Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance – Titania’s Original Profile Page/History Translated

Fire-Emblem-25th-Anniversary

Taking a break from Fire Emblem Fates today! Instead, the Making of Fire Emblem: 25 Years of Development Secrets book features original profiles of characters from Path of Radiance. There are a lot of interesting things to look at for fans of the Tellius saga, familiar names but very different story.

You can find Ike’s profile here, and Mist’s here. Today I look at Tiamat/Titania.

You can find much more from this book on the compilation post here.

As you can imagine, the process of doing all this (scanning, editing, translating in some cases, etc) took a lot of time, and I am unemployed… so if you like what I did, then…

Please donate! It helps fund future projects!

Enjoy!
