The artist forgot Soren’s pigtails and just went straight to ponytail! SHAME!

They let you look at the quotes in Japanese too! Which is where I found out that Ike’s eye twitching was just his brow furrowing/the lines on his forehead getting deeper in the Japanese version! Whaaat (but it was cool the localization team caught the difference and kept it consistent! Instead of ending up with a situation like Inigo/Severa and Laslow/Selena supports where a piece of jewelry changes form) So I think you should make note of this somewhere on here, that furrowed brow=twitchy eye in English.
Also while I was on the wiki, I was looking at what the special quotes were originally… because in English Soren copies Ike’s quote, “Out of my way”, I wanted to know what the equivalent was in Japanese, but it didn’t look like either of them had a quote like that, or shared any quotes at all. So I have a few questions. Did they really add this in for localization? Why? And Soren’s “Are you ready to die?” quote was taken from his conversation with Maijin. Does he have a quote in Japanese that was also taken from this conversation?
And one of Ike’s “touch” quotes was this one: “俺はあんたに雇われた。あんたのために、全力を尽くすと約束する。” I *think* this was taken from his A support with Elincia, but since I don’t have the script, I’m not sure. I just would like to know because the quote in English (“You hired me. I said I’d get to work. See? I did. Glad to give you everything I have.”) is definitely different from that support.

Oh wow this wiki has them side by side? That would save me a lot of trouble since i was manually switching languages to compare. There were many other lines I wanted to look into, too, so this is a big help! That furrowed brow/twitching should be a fun one to post about. I’ll look into the other lines later when I get time/back from work too!
It’s not really “side by side” exactly, the quotes pages have two different tabs. They’re in the same order in English and Japanese though, so they mostly line up with the equivalent in the other language. And in Japanese they actually say words when they attack or take damage! Aaa!
That’s side by side to me, compared to my options before that. xD And yes they do!
OH! Another one I found interesting.
In English Soren has this touch-quote: “I am a MERCENARY, guided by SELF-INTEREST above BONDS and ATTACHMENTS.” I thought… I guess the more “aggressive” way of speaking is to maintain localization changes to Soren’s personality (making him bolder since it’s harder to come off as rude in English, while still kind of making sense, since while abuse victims may have a submissive personality like he does in the Japanese, many others do end up pretty aggressive) it was still a strange thing for him to say, considering above all, he is guided by his bond to Ike. So it looks like the quote in Japanese was “傭兵は利によって動くもの。情や絆など期待しないでください。” which Google Translate rendered in a way that reminded me of a line on a Cipher card of his that had been translated by someone on Serenes Forest as “We are mercenaries… mercenaries move to their own advantage.” (you can see it here: https://serenesforest.net/wiki/index.php/Soren_(Cipher) ) Now, a lot of Cipher quotes and Heroes quotes seem to be taken from dialogue in the game, so when I saw that Cipher quote, I thought it might be from this line he has in Chapter 4 about joining the war: “I agree on one point: we are mercenaries.We are not Crimea’s private militia. No coin has crossed our palms, so I think we should stay out of it.” or maybe this one in the next chapter about Elincia: “We are mercenaries. Our actions are dictated only by self-interest. If we want to ensure our future, we need Daein in our debt. They will win this war, after all, and nothing else serves us better.” So what my question is is are these quotes from the game the same as the Cipher quote and/or the Heroes quote? Are all these Soren quotes the same?
I remember back when working on cipher card translations that they are indeed quotes found in the Japanese games. I had to do some digging for the fun FE7 ones!
If I get the exact Japanese text I can consult the text dump for ease of seeing exact quotes from Heroes/Cipher. Translation obviously makes that a little bit harder!
Oh… more specifically, it’s the wrinkles in between his eyebrows, which you can see the artists drew here. lol
It’s scenes like this that make me think that Soren should have been made female so that Ike x Soren can be a normal pairing. Though I expect Fujoshis like the pairing as is. XD
