Super Mario Odyssey: Wario Outfit Description [JPN vs ENG]

Today’s post is a small one, and covers a reader request to look into the Wario cap from Super Mario Odyssey. It’s part of an ongoing series of comparison from the game both by request and personal curiosity.

Japanese Lit. Translation Official Localization
特徴的な W字マークがついた帽子

W字マークの帽子と 合わせたい衣装

A cap with a distinctive W on it.

An outfit to match the W-marked cap.

A cap bearing a distinctive W. It doesn’t fit well and kind of chafes.

The kind of outfit that you want to wash at least once before you wear it.

Like we have seen before when comparing this game’s localization, the Japanese is simply stating something as it is, where as the localization is adding a certain flair to it. The Japanese description in fact is much like what we saw in the Luigi cap description.

Unlike Luigi though, the Japanese is much more clear-cut and dry here, compared to the localization that adds reference to Wario’s larger size and poor hygiene.

It’s pretty straightforward!

An interesting observation by Connor Krammer over on twitter notes:

It is possible it could be accidental, but that is a nice observation regardless.

That’s that!

I will continue to look at fun differences between the versions of sorts of games when I get time!
