Super Mario Odyssey: Bridal Outfit Description [JPN vs ENG]

Today’s post is another smaller one and looks into the Bridal Outfit in Super Mario Odyssey. It’s part of an ongoing series of comparison from the game both by request and personal curiosity.

This is actually the last of my personal curiosity ones. If there are any suits I didn’t cover that you want looked into, however, please let me know and I’ll do so!

Japanese Lit. Translation Official Localization
ピーチ姫のヴェールを再現した 人気のレプリカ

有名なヴェデイングドレスの 精巧なレプリカ

A popular replica of Princess Peach’s veil.

An exquisite replica of the famous wedding dress.

A perfect replica of Princess Peach’s veil.

A replica of Peach’s wedding dress (though it did have to be altered a bit for Mario’s measurements).

So as you can see the first line on the veil was translated and expressed perfectly.

The part about the dress is almost expressed perfectly. The Japanese does mention “renowned” (or “famous”) dress rather than Peach directly, as the localization mentioned Peach’s dress directly. This may be due to the Japanese potentially referencing the bridal gown found in the Lake Kingdom, rather than it being Peach’s directly. That is just speculation, however, that may have been a subtle loss in translation.

The humorous line about Mario’s measurements turns out to solely be a creation by the localization, and did not exist in the original Japanese description.

As an aside, this outfit is known as “Wedding Peach” in Japanese.

That’s that!

I will continue to look at fun differences between the versions of sorts of games when I get time!
