FE Fates Localization: Is Hinata the only potential father who can die? (Error? Minor)

Hinata

This is another post in my ongoing Fire Emblem Fates localization comparison posts! I discuss anything from major to minor changes here as I play through the game.

Today, I look at Hinata’s death quote in English and Japanese. It is a minor change (or perhaps an oversight) that makes it seem like he dies in English while retreating in Japanese.

Please note that this post is purely informative and may share some opinion, but this does not mean the change is necessarily good or bad. A change is just a change that is being looked into, and you can be the judge of whether you like it or not!

It is all just for fun and curiosity for me. : )

Fire Emblem if/Fates: 4Koma KINGS Page 14 Translation

The latest of my scan/clean/translation of  Fire Emblem if (Fates): 4Koma Kings (ファイアーエムブレムif 4コマKINGS).

This is an individual post for Page 14. The compilation post that features all pages thus far is here! This is the last of the colored pages.

I do not post the raw scans here, but you may email if you want them to compare translations! I do at least one page per day.

All scanning, editing, translating, and uploading is done on my free time and is rather time consuming. It is certainly a lot of work… so please consider donating if you like the work I do. Any amount (no matter how small) is much appreciated and helps me keep going on a daily basis. I hope you enjoy the end results of my work!

014translateNotes:

  • Update (10/25/16): I originally translated Saizo’s panel slightly incorrectly, but a kind reader pointed out they thought it should be a different way, and so upon double checking found what I missed last time and corrected it. Thanks!

Fire Emblem Fates – Why is Selena the only one of the three who can actually die?

Luna

Today’s post is not exactly a localization comparison. Rather, it’s just a brief curiosity post in regards to something that remains in both versions of the game. Namely, why is Selena the only one of the three “expies” (from Awakening) who can actually die? [In Classic Mode].

There may be some minor spoilers to some DLC that is still unreleased in North America (as of this writing). There are also very minor spoilers for Conquest and Revelation.

Fire Emblem Fates: Marth amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

marthamiiboeve

Back in August I translated Marth’s amiibo event in full. A few days ago, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! Then I looked at Robin’s, not as many differences, but a few. Yesterday, I looked at Ike, who only had a few small changes (and an error).

So! Today is the last of the four, being Marth. He changed quite a bit, from informal to formal among other things!

This is by no means a “they changed everything so don’t buy this game” post! This is just to show how things can sometimes change through localization and is a way to satiate curiosity.

Note, this is just the first encounter for now. If I find videos, or when the game comes out, I will be able to compare second encounters as well. I will update this post to reflect those.

Enjoy! Feel free to email or comment with more requests related to FE in general.

Fire Emblem Fates: Ike amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

thethemercenaries

Back in August I translated Ike’s amiibo event in full. A few days ago, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! Then I looked at Robin’s, not as many differences, but a few.

So I decided to look into Ike today (and hopefully Marth tomorrow)to see if things changed in those.

Fire Emblem Fates: Robin amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

Back in August I translated Robin’s amiibo event in full. A few days ago, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! So I decided to look into the others (Marth, Ike, and Robin) as well to see if things changed in those.

This is by no means a “they changed everything so don’t buy this game” post! This is just to show how things can sometimes change through localization and is a way to satiate curiosity.

Fire Emblem Fates: Lucina amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

lucinamiibo

Back in August I translated Lucina’s amiibo event in full. Yesterday, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! I am sure there are reasons for it, but the changes do go a long way of changing the subtle meanings of this brief dialogue.

This is by no means a “they changed everything so don’t buy this game” post! This is just to show how things can sometimes change through localization and is a way to satiate curiosity.

Fire Emblem Awakening started off as “Fire Emblem Fin” – FE 25th Anniversary

The Making of Fire Emblem: 25 Years of Development History contains some fun trivia regarding the series. You can find all the information I translated thus far in one place here.

This is a brief post about how Fire Emblem Awakening started as Fire Emblem: Fin. This makes sense, considering the common knowledge of how Fire Emblem Awakening was to be the last Fire Emblem game if it did not sell well (and indeed was referenced in the same interview).

Below shows the concept work. Originally it was called Fire Emblem Fin and went through plenty of names. The shot below shows “Children from the Brink” as one possibility (Literally, it translates to “Children from the End [of time].” The two silhouettes also resemble Ike on the right and…Stefan? It looks like a silhouette of his official Radiant Dawn artwork, at least. Was it going to be in Tellius? Or maybe a game that had people from all over? We’ll never know. It is just a concept work after all, so that wouldn’t really mean much. If one can guess who the silhouette in the bottom left is, (likely from Tellius), then all the better.

Contents of the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Book (Translation + Review)

Fire-Emblem-25th-Anniversary

To give people (and potential importers) a better idea what exactly is in the 351 page Making of Fire Emblem: 25 Years of Development Secrets book, I decided the easiest way to cover that would be to simply translate the Table of Contents and write a personal commentary on it too. See the contents first, and my brief review after that. You can also scroll down to the bottom for a summary.

All the information I have translated thus far can be seen on my compilation post.

As you can imagine, the process of doing all this took a lot of my free time, and I am unemployed…so if you like what I did, then…

Please donate! It helps fund future projects!

Enjoy!
