Trekking on the World of Fire Emblem – FE6-8 Ch. Header Picture Compilation

Hello! Been awhile!

Yesterday, twitter user CyanYoh posted a compilation of silly pictures that are from Trekking on the World of Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade.

These come from a strategy guide written by Enix (the same that would become Square Enix). They wrote guides for all three GBA FE games. They are guides written in a fun fashion that certainly keep the reader entertained throughout while also being informative. They have amusing little drawings at the start of each section which is what CyanYoh posted in their thread.

Fans on the thread wished to see the artworks from the Binding Blade and Sacred Stones as well. So I decided to scan those ones as I happened to own the books and make a full compilation post for the fandom’s reference.

These are all also in an imgur gallery for your convenience as WordPress isn’t the most intuitive place to read these. Please enjoy whichever is easier for you to read!

Please note that all scans of the FE7 book are from CyanYoh and have been uploaded with their permission! (Which saves me a ton of trouble of scanning those images myself, so thank you!)

Lastly, I provided translations as captions below the picture where they are needed. I did not typeset as I usually do due to time constraints. Likewise, I did not translate the chapter names. The picture often has to do with the chapter itself, so there may be some lost context. I hope I can revisit and translate all titles for you all too in the future… but hope you all can enjoy the silliness without the context for now, regardless.

Enjoy!

FE Three Houses Localization: Are there references to older FE Games in the Two-Toned Whetstone sidequest?

A fun trivia and comparison post today!

A reader brought this nifty easter egg that reddit user PeppersJacks noticed in English to my attention. It involved items you trade while getting the Two-Toned Whetstone to either Shamir or Catherine, and whether the item names are actually references to previous games in the series.

The main items people point to are the Whetstone referring to Fates, the eyedrops referencing Awakening, and the book Path of Dawn being the Tellius games. Is this also the case in Japanese? Are there references that weren’t fully translated, or is this just a little nod by the localization team, or is it all a coincidence?

I took a look in Japanese as requested, and it turns out they most likely are intentional references when looking at the Japanese! But whether the localization opted to convey these (or realized the references) is up to interpretation. They do not seem to reference individual titles per se, but rather the sagas seen over the series …with one exception.

PeppersJacks got most of it, though the Tome of Comely Saints left them a little unsure. However it and the others are made more obvious in Japanese.

Let’s take a deeper look.

FE6/7: Complete Character Poll Results and Comment Translations (2004)

Over the past several weeks (and months), I took a look at an old character poll conducted around 2003-2004 for the Elibe games (FE7 Blazing Blade and FE6 Binding Blade) for Japanese players. The results for the top 30 characters of each game were published online with Japanese player comments. The rest of the results (and some more comments) were published in the Character Book. As such, the data presented here is consolidated between the two sources.

While this poll was of course known to fans for a long time, the Japanese comments were never translated in full (for good reason, there were quite a few). As such the objective of this post (and project) is to serve as a resource in both presenting the poll data all in one place as well as giving English-speaking fans some insight on what Japanese fans thought of these characters those years ago. It’s become one of my objective to help bring the fandoms together in some way, so this is a part of that.

Lastly, for the sake of comparison, I include data from the Fire Emblem Heroes Choose Your Legends character poll conducted in 2017, just so one can see how 13 years (and a Western audience) made a difference to where the characters ranked. You can see how characters stacked from the Elibe games in a FE6/7 specific analysis I did before, too. The same data will be used throughout the post.

Altogether this was 49 pages of data on word that I translated on my free time during the last few weeks, so if you’re feeling generous consider donating to help support me continue to build an archive of Fire Emblem (and other) resources here on this blog! (I’ll do it anyway regardless of the donations, of course!)

Daily Posts Resume & New Lilina Banner (Summer 2017)

This is just to post showing off a new banner for the website, and to announce continued posting through the summertime thanks to vacation (and hence more freetime)! Though it is mostly for twitter, I thought it would be fun to put around on this site too. I was happy with how the drawing came out! Lilina is a great mascot, I think.

Of course, I do not claim any ownership over her character! So please consider this fan art. : )

Daily posts should continue up until the end of August hopefully! A big thank you to anyone who is still around and looking forward to translation work!

FE Binding Blade: Roy x Lilina Fanart Translation (1) (Request)

Today I fulfilled a quick request by a reader over on twitter to quickly translate @w_spread‘s (really well drawn) Roy x Lilina picture.

See the original art/tweet here.

The provided quote on the tweet states:

“The type of banter Roy & Lilina hear when strolling through the town together.”

Fire Emblem Series “Choose Your Legends” Analysis – Final Summary and Recap

feheroescharacters

Over the last week, I took an in-depth look at the Fire Emblem Heroes “Choose Your Legends” poll. It is the first time there has ever been (what is essentially) a popularity poll of the Fire Emblem series conducted worldwide across every main entry in the series. For that reason I put a lot of time toward looking at the trends, characters, and other fun data that we can derive from it.

There are limitations to it of course, which I address on each individual post. I hope as a Fire Emblem fan you gain some nice insight form all this.

A big thank you to Elieson over on serenesforest.net for having organized the original graphs of data that I could then modify and format for purposes here.

I will be resuming my usual translations from tomorrow, but if you have any other suggestions on what sort of data you want to see formatted (such as “Chart showing Jagen characters lined up), let me know! I’ll happily add it.

If you feel generous, then I’ll happily accept any donations you may have (just click the orange button on the top right of the page!)

Below I present the findings in image format, and links to the more detailed article pages! Enjoy! And thanks again for all reader comments and support. : )

FE6 and FE7 (Elibe Games) “Choose Your Legends” Poll Results Analysis

Nintendo conducted a poll for Fire Emblem Heroes urging fans to pick a favorite character of theirs that they would love to see featured. Each fan could vote once a day for 13 days for almost any character from any of the main Fire Emblem series of games.

This is part of a miniseries I am doing on analyzing the vast amount of poll data available to us and what it means for the fandom and their favorites regarding characters.

Thanks to the tireless work of Elieson over on serenesforest.net, we can take a look at the break downs by game!

Today we will focus on FE6 (Binding Blade) and FE7 (Blazing Blade). The latter is the first Fire Emblem game that came to the west, and indeed it shows! Combined they form the Elibe games.

There are some general things to keep in mind before we get started, however.

FE 25th Anniversary Comiket Staff Book – Page 21 Translation

ComietB01-02

Today’s translation comes from the Fire Emblem 25th Anniversary Comiket Staff Book. It was a small book that featured notes and artworks from the game developers. I do not own this book, so all credit for the raw scans goes to an imgur gallery kindly uploaded by kingddd.

I am not translating these in any order, and simply by interest/request. I may get through the whole book eventually, but we will see!

Feel free to donate if you are feeling kind. Any amount, no matter how small, really helps me out : ) (The donate button/link can be found in the top right corner of the page!)

I took a look at Page 21!
