FE: Path of Radiance: “What does that ‘Eat Rock’ guy say in Japanese?” [JPN vs ENG]

When I was playing through Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance (FE9) again a few months ago, I came across this particularly silly line that many fans (and I) find amusing.

I was curious as to what he said in Japanese, and managed to get hold of the Japanese game script to check just that!

The dialogue in question is from Chapter 25 of Path of Radiance (Strange Lands). It occurs in the scene right after you beat the level.

For those unaware, that map features traps and boulders that the enemy tries to roll down atop you. So when the group thinks they’ve cleared the field of enemies, along comes this guy…

Today, however, I did not do the comparison, rather, I came across an intriguing article that discusses Nyx’s supports between Japanese and English, and how it changes her portrayal. Namely, how she seems more concerned about the body she is stuck in (English) versus the guilt she feels due to the mass-murder she committed (Japanese) as a side effect of her portrayal.

I already looked at some changes with Nyx, such as her death quote. So it’s interesting seeing some more in her supports.

FE Fates Localization: Caeldori x Kiragi C Support Comparison (Strange)

Today, I look at every character’s final lines during the Endgame chapters in both Birthright and Conquest. These lines are only said when said characters are brought on the final levels of the respective games.

Today, I compare every death quote in the game! I had been going through and comparing them one by one, but decided a macro-post would be nice to put them in one place. A reader pointed out that there is already a reddit thread that compared the fan translation to the official one, but I thought to add my own post and translation on the matter.

I include notes/commentary where appropriate, but for the most part present them side by side.

Today, I look at Flora’s death quote in English and Japanese. It is a major change (to the quote itself), but a minor change (to the overall game/story). That is why it is labeled as “Minor-Major” for more clarification.
