Pokémon X/Y/OR/AS: That one Nurse in the Battle Maison [JPN vs ENG]

Not my screenshot. OR/AS version. Source.

Today’s post is part of a long line of comparison posts. Today’s comes as a personal curiosity, but also enabled thanks to a reader question:

“In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, there is a certain Pokémon Center Nurse in the Battle Maison. She speaks totally differently in a funny way. Is she the same in Japanese?”

I remember this Nurse very well! I’ve been curious about it myself. There is a similar Nurse also in the Battle Maison in Pokémon X/Y, though she speaks in a different way. So I decided to take a look at them both for today’s post!

Let’s take a look.

Fire Emblem Fates: Marth amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

marthamiiboeve

Back in August I translated Marth’s amiibo event in full. A few days ago, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! Then I looked at Robin’s, not as many differences, but a few. Yesterday, I looked at Ike, who only had a few small changes (and an error).

So! Today is the last of the four, being Marth. He changed quite a bit, from informal to formal among other things!

This is by no means a “they changed everything so don’t buy this game” post! This is just to show how things can sometimes change through localization and is a way to satiate curiosity.

Note, this is just the first encounter for now. If I find videos, or when the game comes out, I will be able to compare second encounters as well. I will update this post to reflect those.

Enjoy! Feel free to email or comment with more requests related to FE in general.

Fire Emblem Fates: Ike amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

Back in August I translated Ike’s amiibo event in full. A few days ago, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! Then I looked at Robin’s, not as many differences, but a few.

So I decided to look into Ike today (and hopefully Marth tomorrow)to see if things changed in those.

Fire Emblem Fates: Lucina amiibo Event Dialogue Comparison (JPN vs ENG)

Back in August I translated Lucina’s amiibo event in full. Yesterday, GameExplain released a video of all four “first encounter” dialogues in the English version of the game. I took a look at Lucina’s dialogue, and surprisingly, things changed! I am sure there are reasons for it, but the changes do go a long way of changing the subtle meanings of this brief dialogue.

Legend of Zelda: Tri-Force Heroes NoA VS NoE Localization (1)

There has been a lot of buzz about Tri-Force Hereos’ localization in North America versus that in Europe. A notable example was a meme included in the NoA version that was non existent in the Japanese and NoE versions. This split people down whether it is wise to include a meme into a game and risk losing the “timeless” factor. You can read a great article on Legends of Localization about that.

For me, I’m just looking at other smaller things that still stand out in odd ways. One of my friends is playing through the NoE localized version, and did me a favor and found the same part of the game in NoA. Look at the differences:

Fire Emblem Fates: All four amiibo event dialogue translations -First Encounters-

These are all the first encounter conversations. On my previous posts for amiibo dialogue translations (now updated), I was missing these. Youtuber Linkmastr was kind enough to upload them specifically for me, so here they are with the full dialogue!

You can read the events on their individual pages (with videos), or just see them all on this page. Marth’s here, Robin’s here, Lucina’s here, and Ike’s here.

This was all done on my free time, and so took a while. It was certainly a lot of work, but I do hope you enjoy! I am unemployed… so please consider donating if you like the work I do. : )
