FE9 Path of Radiance Localization: Mia’s Fortune and Archrival [JPN vs ENG]

It’s been awhile! Happy New Year! Hopefully I’ll have time for more posts in 2020.

Today’s post is a personal curiosity involving Mia’s fortune in her support conversation with Rhys, as well as her “archrival” in general. The structure is a little wayward, as a forewarning.

The localization of her conversation is mostly very accurate, though the fortune itself actually differs slightly. Despite a lot of small detours from the Japanese here and there, the conversation ultimately reaches the same conclusion.

I also touch upon a few other instances of her mention of fortunes and archrivals.

Let’s take a look!

Pokemon Sword/Shield: Are Poke Kids Mia and Rhys’s names a nod to Fire Emblem?

While playing Pokemon Shield, I encountered two Poke Kids, a girl and a boy, on Route 4. They are in the same area in close proximity to each other in the northeast section of the route.

Their names? Mia and Rhys.

As an FE fan, that really stuck out, as we know these names as the pair of mercenaries from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. Fun!

So naturally I wondered if this was an intentional reference, or total coincidence?

Short answer: If not a coincidence, then it may be a very light localization-side reference out of opportunity. There is no JP reference however.

If interested in taking a closer look, then see below!

Mia, Edward, Oekaki, Birthdays (not a translation/trivia post)

Today is just a brief post that isn’t really a translation/comparison/trivia post, so please feel free to ignore it. It’s a rare actual-blog/picture sharing post.

It’s a special friend’s birthday today! She reminds me of the Mia sort and often associates with her. At the same time, to celebrate my most recent Radiant Dawn clearing (and Mia being in first place as a result), today is a random post about Mia.

First I drew this oekaki style picture a few days ago, but wanted t post it here on the 28th to celebrate:

FE10 Radiant Dawn Localization: What did Mia say in the “Execution” Cutscene? [JPN vs ENG]

This post is part of a series on reader requested (and personal curiosity) comparisons between various games’ Japanese and English scripts.

Today’s post was a request by @LeKanehi, and is about Mia’s line from a cutscene in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

Please be aware there may be spoilers as always when discussing context. Let’s take a look!

FE Heroes: “Farfetched Heroes” [JPN vs ENG]

Today is a quick post about the new (as of this writing, Nov 15th) hero banner in Fire Emblem Heroes.

When I saw the title and characters involved, I wondered why the translators may have chosen “Farfetched” as their word of choice for the title. I’ve always liked the English word farfetched (thanks to a particular Pokemon), so it made me wonder what the Japanese was.

So I took a quick look:

Farfetched Heroes
大いなる英雄再び
Great Heroes Once More

Well, from the above you can see the Japanese seems to be stating the banner for what it is, and the translation seemingly went for a more colorful approach.

So what could be going on here? Let’s speculate.

FE Radiant Dawn: Mia x Rhys Comic Translation (1) (by sa_ayahara)

Today I translated a very brief (3 page) fan comic featuring Mia and Rhys from Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn

This comic was originally drawn by artist @sa_ayahara who draws quite a lot of fan art involving the two.

So please keep in mind I did not draw these. I simply translated them. I asked for her direct permission to translate them, and she granted (and in fact encouraged) me to do so. She asks that her works not be reproduced elsewhere without her permission.

See her wonderful pixiv profile here. She does a lot of Tellius (FE9/10) art beyond just Mia and Rhys, too!

If you have any brief fan comic/picture requests, or are feeling kind enough to donate, please use the “DONATE” button on the top right of this page!

The original comic in its original language can be found on this tweet of her’s.

Below is my translated version. Please do not reproduce it elsewhere.

FE RD: Rolf and Mia Concept Art (190-191) Translations

This post is part of my ongoing translations of the Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Memorial Book: Tellius Recollection (Vol 2).

This post features all of Rolf and Mia’s concept artwork in Radiant Dawn.

You can find every translation I’ve done on this book so far on the compilation post here!

As you can imagine, the process of doing all this (scanning, editing, translating, etc) takes a lot of time, and I am unemployed…so if you like what I did, then…
