FE PoR: Greil Character Profile (P. 54) Translation

This post is part of my ongoing translations of the Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Memorial Book: Tellius Recollection (Vol 1).

This post is a character profile of Greil (page 54). The notes were translated by VincentASM (of serenesforest.net) and the profile data by me.

You can find every translation I’ve done on this book so far on the compilation post here!

Original scans/Japanese are not posted, but are available by request.

As you can imagine, the process of doing all this (scanning, editing, translating, etc) takes a lot of time, and I am unemployed…so if you like what I did, then…

Please donate! It helps fund future projects!

The leader of the Greil Mercenaries; a veteran hero. He and his wife, Elena, are the parents of Ike and Mist.

With the exception of Titania, his past before leading the Crimean mercenaries was kept hidden from the others. His true identity is Gawain, the Divine Knight of the “Steadfast Four Riders” who served the previous king of Daein. After his fiancé Elena was entrusted with Serenes’s “Fire Emblem”, he fled to the Kingdom of Crimea and assumed the alias “Greil”. Later, he settled with his family in Gallian soil and also became close friends with Caineghis. Around this time, he met Titania who was stationed at Gallia as a foreign exchange soldier.

Around 10 years ago, while fighting back assailants sent by Ashnard to retrieve the “Fire Emblem”, he touched the medallion and was consumed by its chaotic energies. Unable to restrain his power, Greil slaughtered friend and foe alike, only stopping after he cut down his beloved wife. Having witnessed the dangers of the medallion’s power first-hand, Greil cut the tendons in his sword arm and made a contract with an elusive assassin: should he ever go berserk again, the assassin was to end his life.

Thereafter, Greil took up the battle axe Urvan and, even while he fought the Black Knight, he never gave up his convictions. Meanwhile, he passed down the swordmanship he perfected as “Gawain” to Ike and entrusted the medallion’s safekeeping to Mist. He probably made these plans in anticipation of his inevitable downfall. If it wasn’t for the sudden duel with the Black Knight, perhaps the history that followed would have taken a very different turn.

Greil lived a life without borders and without fear of the various obstacles in his path, and he had a lasting influence on the lives of many others. Even after his death, his glorious will was succeeded by his son, the “Radiant Hero”.
