FE RD: Hetzel & Oliver Character Profiles (P. 85) Translations

This post is part of my ongoing translations of the Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn Memorial Book: Tellius Recollection (Vol 2). 

This post features two profiles: Hetzel and Oliver. It is the only page that features two on the same (likely because Ike’s on the next page takes up two pages).

Hetzel

Species: Beorc
Class: Saint
Affinity: Water
Origin: Begnion
Approx. Age: 64

Duke Asmin of Begnion. A saint who serves as one of the seven senators of the empire.
He is known for his moderate stance among the senate, and maintains a relatively good relationship with Apostle Sanaki and Prime Minister Sephiran despite ongoing tensions behind closed doors. However, he is weak by nature and reluctant to oppose those in power, having his doubts but being unwilling to rock the boat. As a result, he was unable to publicly question or oppose the inhumane actions of the other senators, and went along with their plans in accordance to the will of the goddess.
Half a year before the “Serenes Massacre,” a group of beorc hunters captured Rafiel to sell off as a slave. Hetzel purchased Rafiel and saved his life, which Rafiel is eternally grateful for. However, he also feels that Hetzel is his enemy due to his inability to stop those responsible for Misaha’s assassination (resulting in the fall of Serenes), and his constant blame-shifting. Hetzel bears endless feelings of regret and remorse over these incidents, but in the end was still unable to change his stance.

Oliver

Species: Beorc
Class: Saint

Origin: Begnion
Approx. Age: 40

Duke Tanas of Begnion. A saint and the lowest-ranking member of the seven senators of the empire. Though a saint in name, it is simply a title bestowed upon him formally by the senate. In truth, he follows a hedonistic and extravagant life of luxury, having grown fat by satiating his every desire. He is a bit of an oddball who describes himself with flavorful adjectives such as “mellow” or “just right.”
During the Mad King’s War, he faced the Greil Mercenaries deep in the woods of Serenes Forest. He was thought to have been killed, but the senate had actually made arrangements that enabled him to narrowly escape death.
He considers himself to have the most elegant sense of beauty and the fine arts, to the point he claims the title of “guardian of beauty” after meeting the “pretty bird” Rafiel during the Laguz-Begnion war. He even went so far as to oppose the senate that saved his life, forcing himself into the “boorish mercenary” Ike’s group. At that time, Ike had frankly expressed his feelings on the matter: “Look… Would you mind rejoining the enemy?” It came to a point where Oliver truly stopped caring about his own well-being.
