Species: Beorc
Class: Wind Sage > Archsage
Affinity: Dark
Origin: Daein
Apparent. Age: 16

A Wind Sage who serves as staff officer and strategist of the Greil Mercenaries.
He has deep trust in Ike, but will rarely open up to any other beorc or laguz. However, after the Mad King’s War, his outlook started to change ever so slightly, and he would be seen talking to others such as Titania and Ranulf as well. He is knowledgeable in the ways of war, and has been acknowledged by Titania to have saved the Greil Mercenaries from various dilemmas and guided them to victory countless times.
His plans at some of the decisive clashes between Begnion and the Laguz Aliance –such as how they would throw the guard of the “impregnable” Fort Mugill into disarray as well as the Ribahn River crossing to hit the enemy –served to successfully change the mind of Skrimir who once looked down upon his ingenious plans. Despite that, Soren still has mixed feelings due to the hated “brand” he bears upon his forehead since childhood –reminding him of the years that the laguz refused to even acknowledge his existence.
Fellow branded often have the tendency to unconsciously recognize one another. For that reason, it may have been why he was able to quickly deduce Micaiah’s true colors.
Through Ike’s fateful memories of the medallion being restored, Soren’s own secret circumstances of birth were revealed as well.
As far as he was aware, he was sold to an old sage in Gallia by his foster parents, and considered himself to have no blood relatives. After the man passed away, Soren was left unable to speak and close to death by starvation until a boy reached out a helping hand. That boy was Ike, living with his father Greil in Gallia at the time. It was thanks to that mere act of kindness that Soren has absolute trust in Ike, a feeling that became mutual upon Ike regaining this memory. However, another shocking truth lay behind this event.
It relates to how the long lost child between Ashnard and Almedha would be one of the “parentless” who bears a “brand of mixed heritage” upon their forehead. Izuka led Almedha to firmly believe that Pelleas was her son –but he was in fact just someone with the “Mark of a Spirit Charmer.” When Almedha laid her eyes upon Soren, however, it all made sense to her…
However, Almedha did not introduce herself to Soren as his mother. It was a truth that she would continue to hold forever buried within her heart, never known to history. As far as Soren was concerned, his past as the prince of Daein among other things was not really of any interest – because he was able to forge his own destiny.

  1. “As far as Soren was concerned, his past as the prince of Daein among other things was not really of any interest – because he was able to forge his own destiny.”

So… Does this mean Soren knew his parentage or he came to figure it out over the course of the games, maybe because of his powers?

    • It’s worded in a way they may have meant “his past (as a prince of Daein among other things) that doesn’t necessarily mean he himself was aware, but just that he doesn’t mind his past in general. Yet, at the same time, like with figuring out Micaiah earlier, it’s very likely he had figured out the truth of himself too, and, like the page suggests, is not concerned with it since he chose and followed his own destiny. : ) I’d go with the latter, but there is just enough room for doubt too.

      • I honestly don’t see how he could figure out that he was the lost Prince of Daein unless he too had the gut feeling that Almedha had regarding kinship. Besides, do we even know if Soren had any noticeable powers from his Brand aside from incredible magical prowess?

        • Not that we know of (regarding powers). As said, it can really go either way regarding his awareness, but he’s a sharp fellow who I would say probably figured it out on some level, but even if he didn’t, it seems it wouldn’t really matter to him either way.
